What are Membership Levels and how do they work?

Membership Levels define tiers or categories of membership that may have different benefits, dues, or privileges.

Purpose of Membership Levels

Membership levels allow you to:

  • Differentiate between membership tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.)
  • Set different dues amounts for each level
  • Track benefits associated with each level
  • Report on membership by level
  • Target communications by level

Common Level Examples

  • Individual/Basic: Standard single membership
  • Family/Household: Covers multiple family members
  • Student/Senior: Discounted rates
  • Professional: For credentialed individuals
  • Sustaining/Patron: Higher-giving members
  • Lifetime: One-time payment, permanent membership
  • Corporate/Organizational: Business memberships

Setting Up Levels

Membership levels are configured through Classification Codes. Each level can have:

  • A descriptive name
  • Associated dues amount (configured separately)
  • Term length (annual, monthly, lifetime)

Assigning a Level

  1. Open the member record
  2. On Member Details, find Membership Level
  3. Select the appropriate level
  4. Save

Level vs Type vs Category

  • Level: Tier with associated benefits/dues (Gold, Silver, Basic)
  • Type: Kind of member (Individual, Organization, Honorary)
  • Category: Additional classification (by interest, profession, etc.)
