How is the Constituent Engagement Score Calculated
This article is about the Constituent Engagement Score Report. Argenta has a second engagement score that works differently: the one on the Score tab of a constituent record and in the Engagement column on the constituent list. That score is built from four parts, Breadth, Depth, Engagement and Momentum, it is recalculated every night, and an administrator can change how much each part counts. Its levels are named Hot, Warm, Cool and Dormant.
The two scores can give the same person different numbers, and nothing below applies to the Score tab. For that one, see How the Constituent Engagement Score Works.
The engagement score is a weighted average of six dimension scores. Each dimension is worked out separately on a 0 to 100 scale, then multiplied by its weight and added together.
The overall formula
- Volunteering score x 20%
- Events score x 20%
- Email score x 15%
- Membership score x 15%
- Giving score x 25%
- Leadership score x 5%
Everything below is measured inside the Time Period you choose on the report, and only active constituents are scored.

Each row shows the six dimension chips, the band, and the score out of 100.
Volunteering score
- Hours logged: 100 or more = 40 points, 50 or more = 30, 20 or more = 20, 5 or more = 10.
- Task completion rate: completed tasks divided by total tasks, times 30 points.
- Active volunteer status: 30 points if they are currently active.
Events score
- Events attended: 10 or more = 40 points, 5 or more = 30, 3 or more = 20, 1 or more = 10.
- Attendance rate: events attended divided by events invited, times 30 points.
- Committee participation: 3 or more committees = 30 points, 1 or more = 15.
Email score
- Open rate: opened divided by sent, times 50 points.
- Click rate: clicked divided by sent, times 50 points.
- Bounce penalty: 20 points off if more than 20% of their email bounced.
Membership score
- Active member: 40 points if currently active.
- Tenure: 10 or more years = 30 points, 5 or more = 20, 2 or more = 10, and any membership start date at all = 5.
- Visits: 12 or more = 30 points, 6 or more = 20, 3 or more = 10, 1 or more = 5.
Giving score
- Frequency: 12 or more gifts = 30 points, 6 or more = 20, 3 or more = 15, 1 or more = 10.
- Recency: gave within 30 days = 30 points, within 90 days = 25, within 180 days = 15, within 365 days = 10.
- Total amount: $10,000 or more = 40 points, $5,000 or more = 30, $1,000 or more = 20, $100 or more = 10, and anything above zero = 5.
Leadership score
- 2 or more active board positions = 100 points.
- 1 board position = 75 points.
- No board seat but 3 or more committee roles = 50 points.
- No board seat but 1 or more committee roles = 25 points.
Turning the score into a level
- 70 and above: Highly Engaged
- 40 to 69: Moderately Engaged
- 15 to 39: Lightly Engaged
- Above 0 but under 15: Minimally Engaged
A score of exactly zero is Not Engaged, and those constituents are left out of the results altogether. The report only returns people scoring above zero.
